My old band played the first !!! show with John Pugh, I suppose they had been on hiatus for a while before that and it was their first show back. It was an afternoon BBQ in my friend's backyard in Oakland with Out Hud as well.
I think the best time I ever saw them was at the 996 Club in Greepoint. There weren't very many shows there, but the few that happened were mindblowing. I saw Lightning Bolt for the first time there as well, which was nice because it was before people starting going apeshit at their shows and I actually got to stand up front without people trying to kill me. It certainly wasn't the fanciest place to see a show (what with toilet seats on the floor of the bathroom covered in piss), but it had its charms (they had various sizes of glasses, and if you arrived early you could get a rather large one and just hold on to it for the evening. Beers were all $3, regardless of what size the glass was).
I used to see these dudes around all the time, but as this band is now their bread and butter I never really see them anymore. I still will occasionally run into Nic, which I enjoy as it is always nice to catch up with an old friend. We should do it more often!
I have decided to start occasionally including flyers if they seem like they might be of interest to people. I have scanned flyers for the Lightning Bolt show at the 996 Club, and two different flyers for the Oakland BBQ show (one with my band's name mistakenly pluralized). The punk rock archives are slowly being made available to the public, so to speak.
