I saw The Carrots at Silent Barn recently. They were amazing. Everyone left with a smile on their face, and I purchased every record they had available.

Sometimes when you see a band you sort of know you will never get to see them in an intimate environment like that again. Sometimes you have a feeling that they are about to get huge.

Kublai Khan

I don't believe I had the pleasure of seeing Kublai Khan. I did see the first Jakarta show, which my hazy memory tells me featured members of Kublai Khan. I could be wrong, however.

Slowly but surely, every record Brooks put out will make it up here. How many are left now? The internet doesn't seem to know.

Electrosleep International

My friend Dave used to tell me about his friend Josh's band Electrosleep International. I later met Josh and played with and saw his current excellent bands (Deerhunter and SIDS, respectively). But it took me a few years to finally hear this one.

Man is it good! Some hardcore records have held up better than other, apparently.

The Holy Fallout

As I mentioned before, I lived in Philadelphia for a short while. I saw a total of two good local bands when I lived there -- Need New Body, and The Holy Fallout.

Ryan and I played music together once, in a group which eventually turned into Coyote. It was fun being a drummer for a minute, I actually felt myself getting more flaky.

Slowsidedown

I think I planned on posting a lot more old hardcore records when I first started this, but that isn't really how it turned out. I think I traded a lot of them in when I worked at Epicenter, so my collection isn't what it used to be in that regard.

I believe I owned the second single once upon a time, but I recently decided that I should own it again (for the first time) when I saw it at a record store in Philadelphia.

I picked up the first single (which I can't remember if I ever owned or not) at Amoeba.

Josh Reynolds is hilarious. He plays in a band called The Plants who should be famous.

I have crossed paths with Don many times over the years. Despite the fact that he lives in Brooklyn we don't see each other all that much. I wish him well, however.

These records rule, if you happen to enjoy mid-90s hardcore from Portland, OR. I do.

Malcriada

I always liked this band. The Angel Assassins even played a show with them once, the only time in my life that I played Gilman Street. The VSS also played that night, I am happy to say.

I still have the flyer from that show as well, although it lists Get Hustle, who did not actually play.

Men's Recovery Project

I love Men's Recovery Project. I love all the ridiculous remixes on this CD. I have no doubt that you will too.

I had the pleasure of seeing them on several occasions. One of them was in a basement in Sacramento with Thrones, Behead The Prophet, and The Criminals. Legendary.

What is Sam McPheeters doing these days? That guy is some kind of genius.

I never got into any of that whole rock thing that happened in the East Bay around this time. I suppose I was too busy listening to hardcore records.

Now that I am older I can appreciate somewhat tinny garage records a lot more than I used to.

Plus Cory was in John Henry West.

Brooks put this out, who I recently heard is doing quite well for himself in Los Angeles. Kudos!
